Quad Parade 2009

This is the day before the parade, Carol and Diane are setting up their quad's to make sure everything fits properly, the quad's are going to be camels and we are going to dress up in army clothes, this quad parade is an annual event in Quartzsite.

Ken is helping our friend Carol with her camel Cammie he is putting the head on the front of her quad onlookers are Carol's husband Jim and another friend of ours Patty.

Here is Ken and our friend Carol in Algodones Mexico. People are so friendly, Ken has just bought some asparagus from the Mexican, it is always really good asparagus.
Ken and I are at a restraunt in Mexico, we always go to this one as it has good food and usually has live music.

Diane is learning to cute a diamond shape from a marble in her gem class it was amazing to see the different angles of the diamond shape appear it took one and half days to complete.

Here Diane is looking at her stone to check that each angle is exactly right as it has to be perfect before going onto the next step.

This is one of the niceness rainbow that I ever seen. Quartzsite has very few days that it rains and maybe we will see the desert green up and the flower will come out.

Diane and friend Jim grinding their rocks for the opal that is hiding in it, it is a big job but they are determined to find that special opal.

Diane hard at work cutting and grinding to find her opal, this process is very time consuming first you have to get the rock that has a layer of opal in it, this particular kind has a very thin line of opal running through it, there are several layers and if by chance you grind to far on one layer you usually have another one to work on, you have to be paitient and go out in the sunlight often to see that you are not grinding away to much of the opal, the sun shows up the opal really well. Once you get most of the grinding done you will see the different colours of the opal appear on your stone, it really is a beautiful site, then you can make rings or necklaces or whatever you want to show off your opal.

Diane has joined the Quartzsite Rock and Gem Club it is the largest Rock club in the United States. Here Diane is grinding an opal which she cut from a larger piece, it is a long process but the final result should be beautiful.

We went down to the big tent in Quartzsite to see the car show.
it has 70 to a 100 cars and all are very nice to enjoy.
